Operation EIGHT (V)
Eight miles. The soldier’s march.
Overview
Operation EIGHT is the fourth step in the Green Beret Fitness Number Series. It is built on the British Army 8 mile Combat Fitness Test. This is not a race. It is a discipline test under load.
The objective is simple, arrive inside the time standard ready to keep working.
The Standard
Ruck 8 miles (12.9 km) within 2 hours.
Maintain a controlled, sustainable pace throughout.Crossing the line inside the time limit is the standard. How you arrive matters.
Tiers
CSS, 15 kg (33 lbs)
CS, 20 kg (44 lbs)
Combat, 25 kg (55 lbs)
Commando, 25 kg (55 lbs)
Time Standard
All tiers must finish inside 2 hours.
Commando candidates are expected to demonstrate discipline by finishing within the PTI pacing window of approximately 1:50 to 1:55.
Integrity
Operation EIGHT is completed on the honor system.
If you claim a tier, you are stating that you met the distance, load, and time standard exactly as written. No proof is required.
Speed without control misses the point of the test.
Recognition
Operation EIGHT (V) patch, all tiers.
Optional social sharing is encouraged, not required.
Skull & Dagger
Candidates who complete all six Number Series challenges at the Commando tier are eligible for the Skull & Dagger.
The first 25 individuals to complete all six challenges at Commando level, on integrity, receive the Skull & Dagger patch free.
Notes
All tiers earn the Operation EIGHT (V) patch.
Tier achieved may be written on the patch.
Challenges may be attempted multiple times.
Only honest completions count.
You are responsible for your own safety.
All GBF decisions are final.
