About the Event

Operation THEO

Saturday, October 19th, 2024

Brief Start Time: Saturday, October 19th, 2024 at 0900 hrs

Start and Finish Location: Jack Hyde Park, WA

The Boy who inspired the Event

Theo was born on March 22, 2015, and from the start, he brought joy to everyone who met him. At just five months old, Theo was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive childhood cancer, Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma, after an emergency MRI at All Children’s Hospital.

Despite enduring countless rounds of chemotherapy, Theo remained a bright light, learning to walk in the hospital halls and forming bonds with patients, parents, and staff alike. His treatment took him to many departments, where he won the affection of everyone he encountered.

After fourteen months of courageous treatment, Theo passed away at 19 months old, in his parents' arms, surrounded by family and love. His short life touched countless hearts, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Situation

Taking place in Florida, Virginia, California, Ohio, and Washington, Operation THEO is a nationwide effort focused on delivering gifts and supplies to local children's hospitals. Whether you choose to walk or ruck the route, Operation THEO is accessible to all fitness levels and ages, offering a unique opportunity to join the cause and make a meaningful impact.

We are always looking for more people to join us in spreading joy and support to those who need it most, in new locations around the country, and in continuing Theo's name and legacy.

Mission

  1. Collect/deliver gifts and supplies to children’s hospitals, offering comfort and joy to young patients.
  2. Bring communities together through nationwide ruck/walk events that foster connection and support.
  3. Encourage fitness and participation for all ages and abilities while honoring Theo's legacy.

Execution

Candidates will meet at the start location, with the gifts they wish to donate, and GBF Staff will give an Operation THEO brief before answering any questions and releasing the candidates to begin their journey. The route for Operation THEO (WA) is here. This will take you from the start, to the Mary Bridge Children's Hospital.

Operation THEO will vary slightly at each location, depending on the Green Beret Fitness staff in charge. However, the primary focus remains the same: collecting and delivering gifts to children’s hospitals. Some locations may offer optional challenges, while others might include fun rucks or walks. For specific details about your local event, feel free to reach out to your host via email here.

The Mary Bridge Children's Hospital has an Amazon Wishlist and you can view it here.

Event Lead

The event lead for Operation THEO in Washington will be Clint Carr.

Clint organises this event because "both of my children had minor surgeries at Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital.  The staff provided exceptional care to my children from pre to post op.  I was inspired by the kindness of the staff and have since wanted to find a way to help.  Children are resilient and are stronger than we think, but providing ways to help them escape the reality is what they deserve.  Every child should have the opportunity to live a healthy and happy life."
