Situation

Operation BRECON takes you into the famous Brecon Beacons, home of British Military training and United Kingdom Special Forces Selection. This wild, open landscape is beautiful and brutal in equal measure.

Operation BRECON 26 is 26 +/- miles with just over 7,800 ft of elevation gain.

Operation BRECON 13  is 13 +/- miles with just over 4,300 ft of elevation gain.

Operation BRECON 6 is 6 +/- miles with just over 2,600 ft of elevation gain.

Mission

Operation BRECON 26

Candidates must carry 14 kg / 30 lbs (dry weight) and complete the 26 +/- mile route in under 10 hours to pass and under 8 hours to earn the GBF Operation BRECON 26 Dog Tag. The winner will earn the elite Gold Dog Tag.

Operation BRECON 13

Candidates must carry 11 kg / 25 lbs (dry weight) and complete the 13 +/- mile route in under 6 hours to pass and under 4 hours to earn the GBF Operation BRECON 13 Dog Tag.

Operation BRECON 6

Candidates must carry 9 kg / 20 lbs (dry weight) and complete the 6 +/- mile route in under 4 hours to pass and under 2 hours to earn the GBF Operation BRECON 6 Dog Tag.

Execution

Candidates will meet at the Storey Arms Car Park parking area.

At 0700 hrs, GBF Staff will give an event brief before answering any questions and releasing the candidates to begin the route at 0730 hrs.

Service Support

- Mapping. GBF events use the AllTrails app for navigation. To download the route from AllTrails, you will need to sign up for a membership. GBF suggests candidates have a paper map, compass, and GPS too.

- Route. Ensure you download the route for offline use.

- Weight.

Operation BRECON 26 - 14 kg / 30 lbs (without food and water) in a backpack.

Operation BRECON 13 - 11 kg / 25 lbs (without food and water) in a backpack.

Operation BRECON 6 - 9 kg / 20 lbs (without food and water) in a backpack.

- Equipment.

- Dress. Candidates' dress will be a personal choice.

- Checkpoints.

There will be a dead drop water point at Pentwyn Farm on Operation BRECON 26. There are no checkpoints on BRECON 13 and BRECON 6.

- Water. There will be bottled water at the start / finish point and Pentwyn Farm for BRECON 26 candidates. There are no water resupply points for BRECON 13 and BRECON 6. Candidates should carry enough water to last the distance they require +3 miles, in case they get lost.

- Rations. Candidates should have a minimum of 3 x energy bars and 0.5 litres of water as emergency rations.

- Medical. A personal medical kit is required by every candidate. GBF Staff must be made aware of any medical conditions prior to starting the event.

- Transport. Transport to and from the event will be at candidates own arrangement.

Refunds - Refunds will be in the form of a GBF voucher for future events. Refunds within 30 days of an event will not be possible.
