About the Event

Operation MARAKEY is a marathon distance event and is not for the fainthearted or weak-minded.

You only gain your GBF Operation MARAKEY t-shirt at the finish, if you complete the course within the cut-off time.


Minimum Distance: 26.2 miles

Start Time: 0630hrs 9 Jan 2021 for pre-event brief and kit check.

Start Location: City Island, 1799 Ken Thompson Pkwy, Sarasota, FL 34236 

Finish Time: 1700hrs 9 Jan 2021

Finish Location: Daiquiri Deck St. Armands Circle

Competitors can select from any of the FIVE different Ruck Weights:

  1. Civilain (10lbs)  T-Shirt reads - 'Op MARAKEY Civilian Finisher'

  3. Military (30lbs) T-Shirt reads - 'Op MARAKEY Military Finisher'

  5. Special Forces (50lbs) T-Shirt reads - 'Op MARAKEY Special Forces Finisher'


This Team or Individual Rucking Event will be completed on Longboat Key on Saturday 9th January 2021 starting at 0630AM. At 0700hrs candidates will be released to begin the 26.2+ miles. The start location will be City Island by Ken Thompson Park. The finish will be at the Daiquiri Deck on St Armands.

You / Your Team will be issued a routecard in the morning with the checkpoints. This event is about working together, and individual administration and fitness. 'Look after your body and it will look after you.'

There will be no additional workouts on this course.

There will be unlimited free water at checkpoints.

There will be high-energy food, water, and Gatorade at the turn-around point.

There will be a cut-off time of 1700hrs (10 hours to complete the course).

There will be a free drink at the finish waiting for you at the finish.




1. Individual Competitors are welcome to attempt this event. Teams must be a minimum of 2 and maximum of 10.

2. Each team member must start and finish with their selected weighted ruck (10, 20, 30, 40, or 50 lbs). Swapping the weight within the team is allowed but it must be back to the original for the finish.

3. At each CP the Team Leader must post a selfie of the whole team to their Instagram page tagging

@GreenBeretFitness and the #ToughStrongFit. This will be the method for Staff to track the teams progress. The routecard given on the morning of the event will have further details.

4. Traffic Laws and Local Laws must be obeyed. Roads will not be closed to traffic.

5. No private or public transport is allowed to complete the course. Disqualification of the whole team will be the outcome of anyone found cheating.

6. Alcoholic beverages are discoutraged during the course. Maintain hydration properly with water or sports drinks.

Kit List

Kit must be shown by every member to staff at the start. This kit should be fully waterproofed:

  • 0.5 gallon of water minimum (this can be split between several smaller bottles or a hydration bladder)
  • Sunscreen
  • Sun hat
  • Spare socks
  • Towel
  • Sunglasses
  • Fully Charged mobile phone

Ruck Pack and Weight. You must supply your own ruck pack and weight for the event. Look in our Information page for ideas how to add weight to your Ruck. GBF will not supply weight or rucks on the day.

Parking. Parking is up to individual competitors. There is limited free parking near the start point. You should allow enough time to complete the course before your parking time expires.

Weather. This event will be conducted in all weather conditions unless it is deemed unsafe by the event organisers.

Refund Policy. Refunds will be considered on an individual basis.

GBF T-Shirt. T-shirts will be issued at the finish to everyone who completes the course and registers before 26th December.

Pricing. Tickets will be two different prices depending on the distance.

Orders after 26th December will not receive a t-shirt.
